The Scientific Department of the Indian Tea Association (ITA) was established in 1900, marking the beginning of tea research in India. This effort was strengthened with the creation of the Tocklai Experimental Station in 1911. The formation of the Tea Research Association (TRA) in 1964 placed Tocklai at the center of all tea research activities, expanding its reach across Northeast India. Today, Tocklai Tea Research Institute, Jorhat, is the oldest and largest research station of its kind in the world, conducting research on all aspects of tea cultivation and processing.

Job Responsibilities
- Field work layout.
- Screening of botanicals against pests and diseases.
- Observation and recording of data.
- Data compilation of field and laboratory observations.
- Report preparation.
