About Tocklai Tea Research Institute
Tocklai Tea Research Institute (TRA Tocklai) plays a pivotal role in addressing the research and development needs of the tea industry. It supports over 1100 large tea estates and more than 200,000 small tea growers through its advisory branches. The institute focuses on various aspects such as:
- Sustainability and climate change adaptation
- Development of stress-tolerant cultivars
- Improvement of tea quality and production of specialty teas
- Mechanization of field practices
- Risk assessment and reduction of costs
- Implementation of drip irrigation and fertigation
- Integration of artificial intelligence and robotics in agriculture
Research activities are conducted at the Tocklai Tea Research Institute in Jorhat, Assam, and at the North Bengal R&D Centre in Nagrakata, West Bengal.
