A Brief History of Sonitpur Judiciary
The Judiciary in Sonitpur was first inaugurated on 14th August 1967, when the undivided Darrang District and Sessions Judge Court was launched by the Hon’ble Mr. Justice S. K. Dutta, the then Chief Justice of the Hon’ble Gauhati High Court. The first District and Sessions Judge of the Darrang District was Shri Upendra Nath Rajkhowa. In October 1985, the Darrang District was divided into two, creating the Sonitpur District, with Shri Upendra Nath Rajkhowa also becoming the first District & Sessions Judge of Sonitpur. In 1974, the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate and its office were also established, with R. Ahmed serving as the first Chief Judicial Magistrate.

Scale of Pay: Rs. 30,000/- to Rs. 1,10,000/- with a Grade Pay of Rs. 14,500/- per month (as per ROP rules, 2017)
Eligibility Criteria
- The candidate must have served either as a Sheristadar of the Additional District and Sessions Judge or as a Head-Assistant in the District and Sessions Judge establishment for a continuous period of 5 (five) years or more.
